Big Sandy Grand Prix Delivers High-speed Action in Wickiup, AZ

Arizona Offroad Promotions (AZOP) hosted another adrenaline-fueled weekend at the Big Sandy Grand Prix in Wickiup, AZ, on February 22-23, 2025. With approximately 350 race entries, competitors of all ages—from 2-year-old Stacyc riders to seasoned Pro UTV drivers—charged through the 5-mile course, battling sand, rocks, and fierce competition.

Challenging Terrain at Big Sandy

The Big Sandy track is known for its mix of deep sand washes, fast straightaways, and rocky technical sections. Riders faced off-camber turns, rolling hills, and high-speed sections that demanded both skill and endurance. With the track evolving throughout the weekend, racers had to adapt to increasingly rough terrain, making every lap a test of both man and machine.

Racing Highlights

Stacyc, PeeWee Bikes, and PeeWee Quads

The youngest riders kicked off the action, showcasing incredible determination as they navigated the peewee course.

• Brawley Ojeda (Stacyc 6-7 Years Old) - Overall win both days!

Peewee Bikes and Quads – Saturday Overall Winner

• Logan Lewis (65 C Class) – Took the win.
• Sydney Lewis (80-150 Advanced Class) – Displayed great speed and determination.

Peewee Bikes and Quads – Sunday Overall Winner

• Lincoln Fouts (50cc 7-8 Years Old Class) – Claimed victory.
• Emma Martinez (80-150 Advanced Class) – Conquered the sandy terrain for the win.

Mini Bikes & Mini Quads

The mini bike and mini quad classes ran on the full Big Sandy race course minus the single track.

Mini Bikes (Saturday Top 3 Finishers)

• Jake Pennington (85 A Class) – Took first place.
• Royce Pendleton (85 B Class) – Secured second place.
• Karson Eales (85 B Class) – Finished third.

Mini Quads (Saturday’s Top 3 Finishers)

• Mason Mulgrew – Took first place.
• Preston Raue (91-300cc Class) – Placed second.
• Payson Race (250-400cc Class) – Finished third.

Big Quads

The big quads put on a show, tearing through the course with sheer power.

• Christopher Friederman – Dominated the competition, taking first place on both days.

Big Bikes

With a great turnout, races were split to accommodate the large number of riders.

• Tannar Cox (Open C) – Won both days.
• Nic Colangeli (Pro Bike) – Dominated his class.

UTV Classes – 170s to Pro

The UTV races featured fierce competition across multiple classes.

UTV 170 and 250 Classes

• Joshua Lehman (UTV 170 Advanced) – Took first place both days.

UTV 570 & Youth 1000 NA Restricted

• Estella Gaddis – First place in Youth 1000 N/A Restricted class both days.

Pro UTV Classes – Saturday’s Top Finishers

• UTV Pro N/A 1st Place: Clayton Winiecki
• Senior 2nd Place: Daniel Winiecki
• UTV Pro Turbo 3rd Place: Paul Kroger
